Local Government
South Tipperary County Council, based in Clonmel, administers local government services for the county. The towns of Carrick-on-Suir, Tipperary town, Clonmel and Cashel have their own elected town councils. Services overseen by the county or town councils include housing, roads, water supply/sewage, the environment, the electoral register, and planning.

Local authorities are also responsible for promoting the interests of the local community through a programme of economic, social, environmental, recreational and cultural initiatives. Under the Local Government Act 2001, each local authority has an elected council with members (councillors) who are elected every five years.

Courts
Court offices are located in Clonmel and Tipperary town. Clonmel Courthouse has three courtrooms, with provision for high court and family court sittings, in addition to the circuit court and district court.

Libraries
Tipperary library has several branches throughout the county including Cahir, Cashel, Carrick-on-Suir, Clonmel, Fethard, Killenaule, and Tipperary town.

Library services include adult lending, children's and young adult libraries, reference and local studies collections, newspapers and magazines, large print, talking books, internet access and adult literacy material. At many branches you can also find study facilities, exhibition space, inter-library loans, and photocopying machines.

Tipperary Studies, located in Thurles, is a reference library and research centre dedicated to the collection of material on all aspects of County Tipperary. It’s an interesting destination for anyone who is interested in the history of Tipperary.
